This past July, we had the pleasure of honoring our 2026 DMC Driver of the Year, Efigenio “Nick” Barboza of Covenant Logistics, Inc. by hosting an award ceremony at his home terminal in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Nick’s family, friends, and colleagues, gathered alongside Covenant Logistics’ leadership to celebrate his exceptional commitment to safety and his accomplished career.

When the speeches concluded, Nick’s colleagues, both drivers and office personnel, took the opportunity to personally congratulate him with handshakes, hugs, and heartfelt words. During this time, all in attendance were also invited to take home giveaway items provided by DMC.

VP of Enterprise Retention and Nominator Lathen Whited reflected on Nick’s early days at Covenant, sharing “we recognized Nick’s strong work ethic and willingness to learn and decided to take a chance on him.” CEO David Parker added, “it’s the best decision we ever made.”

After the award presentation, Covenant leadership, Nick’s family, and the DMC team, gathered for a catered meal which gave everyone an opportunity to celebrate together and congratulate Nick on this well-deserved recognition. In a thoughtful touch, the menu was designed entirely around Nick’s preferences. Covenant asked him what his ideal celebration meal would be, from the main course to the drinks, and that is exactly what was served. After lunch, Nick shared his personal and professional journey that led him to a successful career at Covenant. He spoke about coming to America in search of new opportunities, working hard toward his goals, and how grateful he is to be a professional driver. He also took time to thank his wife, Nancy, acknowledging her partnership, support, and all that she does for their family, which makes it possible for him to focus on his work.

We are proud to recognize Nick as our 2026 DMC Driver of the Year and thank him for the example he sets for the trucking industry every day.
